Recipes for the Heart and Soul

About this blog

An inspirational blog of cathcath. I used to have Sunday reflections in my Now What, Cat ? featuring stories, poems and quotations. Then, they seemed to be out of place for a humor-themed weblog. Recipes for the Heart and Soul is a repository of inspirational thoughts sent to me by my friends which I would like share with the readers. The photos were mostly sent by friends. Some were free photos from Clipart Classroom. Most inspirational poems were excerpts from poems published in Salesian Inspirational Books.

    A Smile

    image of flowers

A smile can speak a thousand words
    Wherever you may be,
    In simple, unassuming ways
    That anyone can see.

    A smile shows you understand
    When hearts fill with pain,
For it sheds a little sunshine
    Where there was only rain.

    A smile's a rose that when returned
    Becomes a Spring bougquet...
A smile's agift you give yourself
    By giving it away.

Excerpt from a poem of Clay Harrison

    Like a Candle

    image of a candle

    O, please let me be
    Like a candle, Dear Lord,
    Quietly shedding a light;
    Perhaps in a limite sphere.
Unsung, but making the pathway bright
    For someone who happens
    To come my way,
    Needing a bit of cheer--
    Then letting them go
    Within a heart that's light
    To quiet another fear.

Except from the poem of Alice Hansche Mortenson

    Priceless Treasures

In all of our lives, there are treasures
More precious than silver or gold,
And none of these riceless treasures
Can ever be bought or sold.

The beauty that surrounds us all
    Along life's thoroughfare
Are treasured gifts given by God
    For everyone to share.

Excerpt from a poem of Doris A. Orth
